Good to you hear these voices again. Enjoyed tariff conversation. Dr. Jim deserves a bell ring for the ‘unanticipated’ risks that can be associated with the lack of clarity as to what the end game holds.

Dr. Jim, you also say we ‘haven’t tried this before’. We have. The Tarriff of 1832 caused a big break between northern and southern states, especially S. Carolina. Side note, the Civil War would commence in that state in 1861 with the confederate attack against the U.S. Army at Fort Sumter. Surely not the cause of the most tragic war in American history but may have help lite a long fuse. The 1930 Smoot-Hawley tariff act. This was not the primary, but certainly a contributing factor to the Great Depression of the 1930’s. It is in the country’s best interest to look to history. Tariffs are a consumption tax on the importer’s citizens. Use them wisely.

Rev D – you nailed it at the end with your soothing words. Sort of reminds me of the ROTC guy that Kevin Bacon played in the movie Animal House, “Remain calm, all is well!”

    Cheers boys,
